Abstract

Lung cancer is one of the most incident neoplasms in the world, representing the main cause of mortality for cancer. Many epidemiologic studies have suggested that physical activity may reduce the risk of lung cancer, other works evaluate the effectiveness of the use of the physical activity in the suppression, remission and reduction of the recurrence of tumors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of aerobic and anaerobic physical activity in the development and the progression of lung cancer. Lung tumors were induced with a dose of 3mg of urethane/kg, in 67 male Balb – C type mice, divided in three groups: group 1_24 mice treated with urethane and without physical activity; group 2_25 mice with urethane and subjected to aerobic swimming free exercise; group 3_18 mice with urethane, subjected to anaerobic swimming exercise with gradual loading 5-20% of body weight. All the animals were sacrificed after 20 weeks, and lung lesions were analyzed. The median number of lesions (nodules and hyperplasia) was 3.0 for group 1, 2.0 for group 2 and 1.5-3 (p=0.052). When comparing only the presence or absence of lesion, there was a decrease in the number of lesions in group 3 as compared with group 1 (p=0.03) but not in relation to group 2. There were no metastases or other changes in other organs. The anaerobic physical activity, but not aerobic, diminishes the incidence of experimental lung tumors.

The idea involves capsules being propelled through a tube, sending passengers gliding over 1,000 kilometers per hour, according toScience Alert.

Six years later and the idea has generated a lot of interest, but it’s not just Tesla’s boss exploring alternative and fast means of transport; a number of scientists, institutes, and startups are doing the same — even Richard Branson has plans for his own Hyperloop, the Virgin Hyperloop One.

Now, according to a press release, Dutch tech startup Hardt wants to conquer Europe with its own vision for a Hyperloop and has taken the first steps in implementing Europe’s first tunnel.

A 30-meter long Hyperloop test track has been put into operation

According to the startup, the tunnel section, which is only 30 meters long and was built in Delft in the Netherlands, now comprises all the core elements necessary for a functioning Hyperloop system.

This means that, among other things, transportation of passenger modules can be tested here, as well as vacuum generation and magnetic levitation (Maglev).

By working on this futuristic method of transportation, Hardt is also looking at unique technology called lane switch technology.

This technology will allow passenger modules — which move in tubes — to switch from one lane to another without reducing their speed and without the need for any extra components or moving parts. This would also allow them to alter their routes.

Hardt is planning an even larger Hyperloop network for Europe

In the long term, Hardt is planning an extensive network in Europe at an ambitious total length of 10,000 kilometers.

A more climate-friendly alternative to air travel, the Hyperloop route network will initially connect major cities with one another and be.

By 2021, a research and development center with a three-kilometer-long test tunnel dubbed the European Hyperloop Center will also be built.

“The next phase is to realize a high-speed test facility, acquiring the right partnerships to raise the right amount of investment required for that,” co-founder of Hardt Tim Houter told CNBC.

Hardt is hoping its first commercial Hyperloop line will be in operation by 2028, but discussion over the 450-kilometer route between Frankfurt and Amsterdam is apparently still underway.

North Holland’s government recently told De Telegraaf that it would work closely with Hardt to build a Hyperloop tube between Schiphol’s and Frankfurt’s airports.
