Melvin patented invention uses CRISPR / CAS9 synthetic biology tools and reengineers the DNA of a blue-green algae to act as a bio-sensor. His innovative bio-sensor in oil and gas downhole drilling slurry detects pressure variations, temperature anomalies and contaminates. Melvin is a pioneer in the area of biomimicry engineering. As a popular educator and board member at a number of Historical Black Colleges and Universities, Greer is leading science, technology, mathematical and engineering (STEM) research initiatives, directly trying to shape a more diverse generation of up-and-coming technical talent.
Dr. Greer received his PhD in Data Management from International American University. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and Technology and his Master of Science in Information Systems from American University, Wash. D.C. He also completed the Executive Leadership Program at the Cornell University, Johnson Graduate School and the Entrepreneurial Finance program at MIT Sloan School of Management.

ABOUT DR. MELVIN GREER
Dr. Melvin Greer leads science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) research initiatives, directly shaping a more diverse generation of up-and-coming technical talent. He is Chief Data Scientist, responsible for building data science platform through artificial intelligence, machine learning, and next generation neuromorphic computing to accelerate transformation of data into a strategic enterprise asset.
He serves as a Board of Director for global firms, where he drives financial governance, inspires future innovators by fostering creativity and improves institutional policies and changes in digital transformation programs. Melvin serves as Adjunct Faculty, at institutions of higher learning, where he teaches the graduate courses “Machine Learning and Cognitive Computing” and “Practical Applications of Artificial Intelligence”.
He is one of the 2018 LinkedIn Top 10 Voices in data science and analytics and a sought-after speaker at advanced technology, legal and education conferences. Melvin inspires his audience to action with a focus on emotional intelligence and mindfulness.

RESEARCH FOCUS AREAS
Melvin Greer is a principal investigator where he significantly advances the body of knowledge in basic research and advanced engineering. His scientific research has resulted in patented inventions in cloud computing, synthetic biology, and IoT bio-sensors for edge analytics. Melvin’s advanced research has been featured at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and U.S. National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine, GUIRR.
Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
Melvin is a data scientist applying advanced mathematics, graph analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence to a broad set on commercial and government use cases. He provides technical expertise on data science concepts and inspires the adoption of advanced analytics and data governance in real world deployments of Health and Life Science, Retail, Threat Intelligence, Financial Services, Energy and Transportation. He is an expert in the legal, ethical and societal implications of AI and develops guidance used to develop the “future of work” strategies. Melvin has been appointed as the first Senior Advisor / Fellow at the FBI. He harnesses state of the art technologies to simplify data analysis and dissemination, strengthening the Bureau’s ability to meet real-time national security, intelligence, counterintelligence and law enforcement challenges.
Advanced Sensors and Analytics for Energy Smart Grids
Smart Grids are next generation electric grids that attempt to predict and intelligently respond to the behavior and actions of electric power producers and consumers connected to it. Melvin research is focused on the development and deployment of advanced sensors distributed across the energy smart grid with the ability to feed big data analytic systems so as to improve the efficiency of sustainable energy production and distribution thereby lowering overall energy costs. Melvin’s patented invention of an advanced sensor provides an intelligent, autonomic and affordable way of brokering and managing smart grid energy resources. He has also patented a mathematical predictive analytics and computational energy model. This model helps smart grids select the volume of electricity to be produced by each power generation unit in order to meet and reach a particular optimization goal. His award winning “Carbon Footprint Game” combines is knowledge of energy generation and transmission, gamification and advanced analytics to provide utilities a roadmap in the development of a sustainable energy model.
Synthetic Biology for Sustainable Energy
Melvin’s research in synthetic biology designs and constructs new biological parts and redesigns existing biological systems. It is an emerging life science field that combines science and technology and applies engineering principles in design of biological systems. Melvin patented invention uses CRISPR / CAS9 synthetic biology tools and reengineers the DNA of a blue-green algae to act as a bio-sensor. His innovative bio-sensor in oil and gas downhole drilling slurry detects pressure variations, temperature anomalies and contaminates. Melvin is a pioneer in the area of biomimicry engineering. This research is focused on the investigation of synthetic biology and its application to the development of new biologically based sustainable energy.

História
I’m Rodrigo Nunes Cal, graduated in biomedicine at Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (Uberaba – 2003-2007) with a postgraduate degree in Health Sciences (experimental lung cancer in mice) at Faculty of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. I currently work as an inspector of students after being approved in a public examination since 2012 in Sao Jose do Rio Preto where I live. I started to do my blog about science, technology and innovation in 2018. This blog contains a lot of relevant information and knowledge with very high quality! Many people from different countries have already accessed it and liked its content, such as renowned professors, scientists and researchers around the world. The world needs more efficient scientific projects and researches to formulate better medicines, vaccines and therapeutic substances, for sure. For these reasons, the dissemination of this blog that I made is of great importance for the entire national and to the world society, obviously. The society needs excellent innovations! The work was very hard to make this blog. I’ve barely spent money on social media (My Facebook Page which is directly related to my blog) for a better dissemination of knowledge and information contained in the blog. However, it is not cheap for promoting a Facebook page, for example. Of course, there are other social networks and websites that work in this sector. The purpose of all the money raised in donations is to pay for the promotion of my blog on the Internet and also as a way of recognizing this very complicated work that I had to do the blog. As many people know, motivation, in the form of money, for example, is essential for a person’s life, directly interfering in their decision-making, quality of life, life projects, etc. Note: I made great efforts to spread it around the world on the Internet, I received a lot of positive feedback about it, I was invited in a short time via direct messages to participate in many scientific events of great importance because I participated in relevant scientific researches in Brazil (´´my´´ monograph and ´´my´´ dissertation), etc. Much of this data is on the blog. As many already know, Science needs to improve more and more, for people to live better and with longer lives. New scientific discoveries are fundamental to the progress of any country, obviously.

Quase não gastei dinheiro em redes sociais (Minha Página do Facebook que está diretamente relacionada ao meu blog) para uma melhor disseminação do conhecimento e das informações contidas no blog. No entanto, não é barato para promover uma página do Facebook, por exemplo. Existem outras redes sociais e sites que atuam neste setor, é claro. O objetivo do dinheiro arrecadado é para custear a divulgação do meu blog na internet e também como forma de reconhecer o trabalho tão complicado que tive para fazer o blog. Como muitos sabem, a motivação, em forma de dinheiro, por exemplo, é essencial para a vida de uma pessoa, interferindo diretamente em sua tomada de decisão, qualidade de vida, projetos de vida, etc. Obs: Fiz um grande esforço para divulgá-la mundo na internet, recebi muitos feedbacks positivos sobre isso, fui convidado em um curto espaço de tempo via mensagens diretas a participar de muitos eventos científicos de grande importância, pois participei de pesquisas científicas relevantes no Brasil (´´minha´´ monografia e ´´minha´´ dissertação), etc. Muitos desses dados estão no blog. Como muitos já sabem, a Ciência precisa se aprimorar cada vez mais, para que as pessoas vivam melhor e com vida mais longa. Novas descobertas científicas são fundamentais para o progresso de qualquer país, obviamente.

A team of students led by Leonard Kleinrock, distinguished professor of computer science at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, sent the first message over the Arpanet…. and the rest was history.
The Internet is a significant part of everyone’s lives, from providing many people with jobs, playing a big role in the way we communicate and to providing us with almost everything we need, including entertainment and shopping. And it all traces its roots back to UCLA.

THE INTERNET’S FIRST MESSAGE SENT FROM UCLA
UCLA becomes a harbinger of the modern era as it launches ARPANET, the precursor to the modern internet, from its Measurement Center in September. UCLA becomes the first “node” of the internet, and the first email goes from UCLA to the Stanford Research Institute, Internet Node #2, on October 29th.
1969 — The Internet is born at UCLA:
Breakthrough Bruin innovation.
Five decades ago, a small group of computer scientists working out of a modest space in UCLA’s Boelter Hall accomplished something never before seen. They successfully created the world’s first network connection — two machines on campus that were linked together virtually. It was part of what was known as ARPANET, and became the first node — or a prelude — of what would eventually become the Internet.
Only months later, the same team, led by the distinguished professor of computer science, Leonard Kleinrock, would successfully transmit the first message over the ARPANET from UCLA all the way to the Stanford Research Institute hundreds of miles north. In that moment, the Internet was born, and with it, an almost limitless number of possibilities for the future.
So after trillions upon trillions of sent messages over the years, what was the first Internet message? According to Kleinrock, they intended to transmit the word “LOGIN,” but the system crashed just after they had sent the first two letters. “Hence, the first message on the Internet was ‘LO’ — as in ‘Lo and behold!’,” Kleinrock said. “We didn’t plan it, but we couldn’t have come up with a better message: short and prophetic.”
